Rescue Me ID: 15-10-20-00322Archie (male)

Bengal    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Needs Vaccinations

I have a purebred Bengal, the beautiful brown SPOTTED cats that are not tabbies! I adopted Archie two years ago, after our dear Spotty (our first Bengal) accidentally escaped, slipping out the door between my legs when my hands were full, and was chased off by the meanest outdoor cat in our neighborhood. During my distraught search for Spotty, I found Archie on Craig's List and adopted him from a woman in North Broward County who was moving to a 'no pets' condo. She got him as a kitten from a guy in my very own neighborhood. He is approximately 12 years old now. Archie has a dislocating knee joint that the vet said can't be fixed. It ... (Read More)doesn't hamper his walking, climbing, or playing, but he can't jump high and you should be gentle when holding him, so as not to cause pain. He is fairly affectionate. Once he gets to know you, he will sleep curled up by you. He'll come to you for attention, rub, and lick you, although, he doesn't enjoy being held for too long. He prefers to stand close while you pet him and rub under the chin, the side of his neck, or the base of his tail. He purrs and likes to play. He is still fairly frisky for an old dude! He does what we call his 'drive-byes.' If you wiggle a toy on a string, he'll run from a distance away and swipe at it as he passes by--and keeps going!! He loves cat treats and especially catnip too. Archie has always been in a multi-cat household so he will be fine alone or with others. I'm not sure, but I think the previous owner might have had a dog too. Most Bengals are ok with dogs. If you are in Broward County, I can do a home visit and advise you on the professional way to introduce a new cat if you have other pets. Unfortunately, I can no longer keep sweet Archie. As you may know, the Humane Society is NOT a no-kill shelter, and those 'no-kills' I called are all full up. Being older and somewhat special needs, he will undoubtedly overstay his 2-week welcome at HS. I will do everything I can to avoid that. I have reconditioned and adopted out even feral cats before, with great success. I have dealt with online adoption groups and sites before. I do screen, and I do a contract with a reasonable adoption fee (as the pros suggest) to be sure the new owners fully commit and will take good care of the cat. Caveat: To adopt Archie, I require that you promise to keep him as an INDOOR-ONLY cat! The reason is due to him being raised that way for his whole life, and his bad leg will be a risk in fights and traffic. He will hang by the door and sniff when it's open. We shake a key chain at him as a deterrent. Please resist letting him meet his brother's fate! If you would like to take this lovely cat, please respond. You can call, but I prefer email. Tell me about yourself, your experience and ability to care for Archie, your location, your home situation (condo, house, kids, pets, etc.), and your reason for wanting him. I'm not nosey for nothing; it's all part of the screening to find him a good home in which I can rest assured he'll be happy, healthy, and loved. Thank you. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-10-12-00115Squeak (female)

Bengal    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Vaccinations Current

This is Squeak, a very beautiful Bengal cat. She is 10 - 12 years old, spayed, micro-chipped, healthy and about due for her shots. Squeak, along with two other Bengal cats were rescued from Orange County Animal Services almost eight years ago. Since that time, all three have been fostered by Gary Henderson. Things were a little rough for Squeak at first because the other two cats constantly picked on her and she would not fight back. They were finally able to resolve that and things were fine until just recently when one of the other cats passed away (lymphoma). Now Squeak is back to being picked on by the other remaining cat, mercilessly, ... (Read More)and Gary feels it is in Squeak's best interest to be placed in a home where she is the only cat. She gets along fine with dogs and children as long as they don't pick on her. Because this is such a special breed, Gary does have stringent requirements: 1. She has to be the only cat in the household. 2. She MUST be a house cat. 3. She must NOT be declawed. 4. A 'cat tree' needs to be placed near a window. Bengals like high places and they like to look outside. 5. And, most important, she must not be re-homed. If the person who adopts her can't handle her after a reasonable trial, she MUST come back to Gary. No exceptions. The good news: when she feels safe with you, she will sleep contentedly on your lap. If you know anything about Bengals, you know that is very special. Please contact for additional details. Adoption fee goes to Rescue Me. (Less)

Animal ID: Gardner wgGardner (male)

Bengal Mix    Age: Kitten

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, FIV

Gardner is a wonderful and very striking tabby maybe Bengal mix. His personality is very similar to a Bengal we had come through our rescue in the past - very outgoing, loves to jump up high and explore everything he can, talkative, playful and gets along fantastically with some of the cats here who like to play. Also is fine with the dogs - basically ignores them. Gardner loves toys too! Will chase anything he can when it comes to toys! Gardner is neutered and up to date on all shots. He is FIV+ but please don't let this scare you - do research on living with FIV cats! This foster home has an FIV cat who is about 14-15yr old and has ... (Read More)NEVER had an FIV related health issue. It is only passed by deep bite wounds - and Gardner doesn't do that to other cats. For information on adopting this great boy, please email us.
