The Bengal is descended from the wild Asian Leopard Cat crossed with domesticated cats. The Bengal has stripes called mascara starting at the corners of its eyes. The coat of a Bengal has a unique, shiny, dusted appearance referred to as glitter. Interest in hybridizing domestic cats with wild cats to produce breeds such as the Bengal was first piqued due to widespread problems with feline leukemia to which wild cats seemed to be immune. Bengal Cats are unrelated to Bengal Tigers.
